North Warwickshire, Commercial & Industrial, Projects

Contract type: Design, manufacture, and installation

Procurement route: Unspecified

GIFA: 67m2

Timescale: 16 weeks

The brief

The contract included the design, manufacture, and installation of a single-bay gatehouse, comprising a control room, lobby, plant room, disabled WC, driver’s WC, beverage area, and a cleaners’ store.

The challenges

The project required cooperation and effective coordination with other contractors.

The solution

Thurston worked closely with the client’s appointed management consultants, DSP Construction Management, throughout the design, manufacture, and installation stages to ensure the end user’s expectations were met.

During the contract, a number of scheduled meetings took place, including internal contract review and handover meetings, where the estimating team detailed requirements to all departments involved. Following this, the designated project manager took over as client liaison through to completion.

The project team worked alongside the project manager to oversee delivery from inception to completion, partnering with the client to define building requirements. Once on site, the team supported operatives and subcontractors throughout installation.

Through shorter reporting lines and a simple management structure, Thurston delivered faster responses to any issues and ensured close project management.

The designated project manager attended regular client meetings involving architects, subcontractors, and end-user representatives to address any issues. Progress against the programme was closely monitored to ensure all trades were effectively managed and the agreed handover date was achieved.
